Apples, Pumpkins, and All Things Fall

Themed Sessions

Whenever I am asked what season of the year is my favorite, I really don't have a good answer. I love all the seasons, except Winter really. To me, each season of the year has its own beauty to show and special features that you simply can't find in the other seasons. I just don't like being cold, which is why I am not a big fan of Winter. Fall on the other hand, I can totally love along with the other three seasons!

One of the obvious aspects about Fall that I love, along with practically every other person I know, is the changing of the leaves. I mean, I specifically planned my wedding with hopes there would be beautiful leaf colors to set the scene (and I was not disappointed by any means!). There is just something so simply beautiful in seeing the leaves transition from green to the lovely shades of yellow, red and orange. So often in life we fear change and what the unknown can mean, but the changes of the leaves of the trees remind us how beautiful change can be.

Another of my favorite things about Fall is that it welcomes the season of the harvest. Having grown up and spent my entire life in a rural farming community, I appreciate and understand the hard work that goes into the harvest. I know that this is the time when farmers truly find what their hard work and efforts all year long have produced. I love seeing the beauty of the apples hanging heavily from the trees in the orchards. I find joy in seeing them overflow the giant crates as they are carefully picked one by one. Seeing the farmers working early mornings and late nights to get their corn and beans in is one of the comforts of home for me. These hard working people are my friends, family, and neighbors and they wait for the harvest each and every year to find out what their coming year will be like, feast of famine. They show a bravery and a faith that many could only dream of.

While I don't enjoy the cold weather that comes with Winter, I do enjoy the cool and crisp weather of Fall. There's something comforting in being able to be cozy in jeans and a nice hoodie. I really have no problem with being a little toasty in the Summer, but that wonderfully crisp Fall air is always a nice relief. It's the perfect type of weather for outdoor photos in my opinion. Nobody has to sweat in the heat or freeze in the cold. Everyone can dress comfortably and enjoy themselves, and there are beautiful landscapes to add to it! Given the amount of portrait sessions I do every Fall, I know that I am not the only one who feels this way!

I always enjoy each and every themed session I hold throughout the year, but I do enjoy my Fall minis a little extra. I am just a sucker for the most basic beauty that there is in mums and pumpkins, bare fields and falling leaves. Even though much of the vegetation is dying as the temperatures grow colder, these simple things bring color and a touch of life to the eyes. A simple reminder that even when it looks like things are gloomy, there is always something bright to be found if you just look for it.

I am thankful as always, in Fall and in every season all year long, for the love and support of my amazing clients. They help bring life to this season of change and time of year, year after year. I am so blessed to capture their smiles, laughter, and changing lives, and I am forever grateful for it all.
