Blane-Class of 2021

Senior

Carefully cut wheat drying in the fields. Beautiful green corn reaching for the sky full of life and growth. A proud young man, surveying the grounds he worked hard and lovingly tended in the Spring to help the crops get to where they are now. So much responsibility and maturity in someone so young.

Blane’s first round of senior portraits were quite special and unique. When his mother reached out to me to schedule his senior photos, she told me how when Blane couldn’t attend school in the Spring due to COVID-19, he didn’t just sit around playing video games all day. No, this young man went to work helping out on the family farm. He arose early in the mornings and worked hard to ensure that that crops got planted at the most opportune times. His work has continued into the Summer and he also plans to help through the Fall. It’s not very often that you hear of a young person putting so much time and hard work in, so I was quite excited to capture these special memories for him!

We started out this particular session right in the fields that Blane worked so hard to plant. Sadly the wheat had to be cut prior to our shoot, but we did still make sure to include these golden fields in his photos. The corn that he planted stood way above his head, looking so healthy, thriving, and green! Having grown up surrounded by fields my entire life, I can fully appreciate what a beautiful sight this was for July.

The life of a farmer is not by any means an easy one, but I am certainly glad to see that there are still some of our youth who are willing to take on the family farm work and pursue this career path. It takes a special breed to work long days in the sun, always watching the weather and the crops, never knowing what the harvest will bring. It’s a life with much uncertainty that takes a lot of hard work, effort, perseverance and faith. Seeing how Blane fully embraces that life and future, really gave me a lot of respect for this young man.

Our shoot wouldn’t be complete without some photos with the old tractor. The tractor of choice for Blane was a Farmall H. We even got his sweet dog and his older brother in for a few shots! Side note, his big brother is also graduating this year, from college! It is certainly a big year for celebrating in this family.

I am so honored and thankful that I got this opportunity to meet you Blane. Being a proud girl from the country, I am so happy to meet someone so dedicated to seeing the farming way of life survive and thrive! It was such a joy to photograph you and see all your hard work first hand, your work ethic and dedication will take you far in life! Keep up the hard work, I can’t wait to see how the farm looks at harvest time!
